Two Hands Food Group are pleased to announce our charity partnership with FareShare. FareShare exists because 8.4 million people across the UK are struggling to afford to eat, yet at the same time over 2 million tonnes of perfectly good to eat food goes to waste. As the largest food redistribution charity in the UK, FareShare works directly with food producers and suppliers to unlock surplus food, which would otherwise go to waste.
The food that FareShare redistributes is nutritious, in-date, and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. In 2019/2020 the number of charities that FareShare supported increased to 10,962 and they provided enough food to create over a million meals for vulnerable people every week. The charity has also seen vast change throughout Covid-19 with demand for meals doubling in 2020/2021.
The impact of donating to FareShare
- £5 enables FareShare to unlock enough surplus food for the equivalent of 20 meals.
- £18.28 covers the delivery cost of food to a single Charity.
- £128 could fund the daily running cost of a van delivering to an average of 7 charities and community groups.
Two Hands Food Group’s partnership with FareShare aims to shine a light on this topic and help our customers reduce unnecessary food waste. Our teams will also be actively supporting the charity with fundraisers, cake sales, volunteering in the community, and in-store initiatives throughout 2021.
